"Keep an eye on the boxes; they tend to move." ― Game Description for Btuch's game "BASEMENT"
Btuch (also referred to as Butch) is a popular myth recognized for their affiliation with Napolaen, a myth notorious who doesnt know what goodwill is and is from Mrflimflam's myth investigations. After being featured as Napolaen's best friend and ally against the "Night Marchers", he massively rose in popularity from hunters until the point of Napolaen's termination. Their background remains mysterious, for all that is certainly known is that they originate from the "MUTAGENESIS" experiments like Napolaen, where Butch was both the subject and observer.
Biography[]
Butch's origination has only extended back to their time in the "MUTAGENSIS" facilities where they were a subject for experimentation. What exactly the experiments were is unknown, but at some point they caused Btuch to transform into a pumpkin humanoid, similar to how Napolaen is a panda humanoid. According to him, in the later years he ended up working for the facility.[1] This likely means they were a scientist due to their appearance. At an unknown moment and for an unknown reason, Btuch likely left the facility along with Napolaen. It is assumed that they then came across the forest and cabin they are known to live in, and decided that as their home.
Somehow, Napolaen and possibly Btuch discovered the possessions of an ancient tribe and stole them for themselves. What they hadn't known is that the spirits of the tribe still lived among the lands and were disturbed by their presence. These hauntings were identified as the "Night Marchers", and they drove Napolaen to insanity after they burned the cabin down.[2] Beyond these events, there are no publicly known details about Btuch's whereabouts, including the outcome of his survival and reaction to Napolaen's death.
History[]
Creating his account in 2008, Butch had only become known as a myth in mid to late 2019, with their first recorded appearance being in a video from Mrflimflam on December 14th, 2019.[2] He was introduced as being the best friend and roommate of Napolaen, and was never really elaborated on afterwards in the series. Unfortunately, there are no records of Btuch's activity before this moment. Although, in Flamingo's first video on Napolean, the aforementioned one being the third, Btuch could be seen on Napolaen's friends list.[3] Therefore, his involvement with Napolaen dates back to at least July 11th, 2019 per the videos upload. Due to the popularity of Napolaen with the Flamingo videos, Btuch's game became highly visited, and he in general received lots of attention from hunters when having interactions in-game.[4] Despite this, there does not seem to be many important pieces of documentation regarding Btuch.
Although Btuch's game "BASEMENT" was created in 2008 alongside their account, it likely was not developed and made public until sometime between December 14th, 2019, and January 28th, 2020. This is due to the basement area that "BASEMENT" takes place in being included as an accessible area in Napolaen's "MUTAGEN" at the time of Flamingo's last video,[5] while a YouTube video from Stalzie shows the basement area being accessed through a teleportation to "BASEMENT" by Btuch.[6] Additionally, Stalzie interviewed Btuch in this video alongside a hunter named, Theivez_303. Following this, Btuch's activity became undocumented but they likely fell into an inactivity period, especially after Napolaen was terminated on April 13th, 2020. However, they did make very brief appearances in Robloxian Myth Hunters' Discord server in 2020 and 2022, though they weren't anything notable.[7]
This extended inactivity eventually ended sometime around October 16th, 2024, since a revamp was seemingly made to "BASEMENT" introducing two badges which provide the possible update date considering their creation date. This also possibly added all the content that wasn't in the recorded version of the game, such as the interactable notes and progression of plot. Furthermore, Btuch ended up rejoining the RMH Discord server two days later where they mentioned the update.[8] No further content or notable interactions have happened from what is known.
Appearance[]
Btuch's current appearance consists of the "Battle Pumpkin Helmet" hat, the "Snowman Disguise" accessory, the "Even More Mad Scientist Hair" hair, and the "Steampunk Suit" shirt and pants. They resemble a pumpkin because they apparently became a pumpkin after experiments were conducted on them during the "MUTAGENESIS" period. This also explains why they resemble a scientist since Btuch claims that he worked at the experimentation facility later on.[1] Butch has no known alternate outfits.
Personality and Traits[]
Butch has been described in the past as somewhat calm and jokey, poking fun at people and making sarcastic comments. However, this description likely refers to their behavior through Discord. From what videos have been found, such as the ones from Mrflimflam and Stalzie, they are quite blunt and even aggressive with their comments. When interacting with the hunters that came from Flamingo's videos, Btuch often secluded himself from conversation due to an apparent annoyance.[4] Although, this did not stop him from being rude at any opportunity. There is unfortunately nothing more known about Btuch's behavior and personality, but he did seem to accompany hunters in "MUTAGEN" frequently.[9]
Game[]
BASEMENT[]
"BASEMENT" is the short continuation of Napolaen's "MUTAGEN" that at first was a quick sub-place used for interactions, but as of recently has been updated to seemingly conclude the story of Napolaen. Originally, it was accessible from Napolaen's house and it was used to harbor the ancient artifacts he had taken from the dead. Due to the termination, it was repurposed to show an end to Napolaen. "BASEMENT" utilizes basic gameplay mechanics such as notes and object interactions to progress the player's experience. It features Napolaen's sanity slowly deteriorating as the "Night Marches" continue to haunt him. After deciding to return the items, he comes to the realization that they had lied and continue to harm him to a point where he ends up dead via gunshot wound.

Once the player joins "BASEMENT" they will find themselves in a small cellar with boxes pushed to the side and trash sprawled across the floor. Among these boxes are two notes, a framed photo of Btuch and Napolaen, and a mangled mannequin. The first note sits near the mannequin, and it contains the thoughts of Btuch. He had seemingly taken artifacts from what is believed to be the spirits that lived among these lands, resulting in them warning him to leave the area. The next note sits behind a group of boxes, and it mentions how he is unable to leave due to a "bond". This is all that is in the room for the moment, therefore, the player should continue to the ladder that reaches the cellar door. If they approach it, they will have the option to retract the ladder. This will soon cause the lights to go out for a brief moment. They will be awarded the "LIGHTS OUT" badge at this point. Once they come back on, the room will be entirely empty. After a few moments, the lights will go out again for a few seconds.
When the power comes back, the room will be similar to before but some boxes will have moved and some new objects will have appeared. Two new notes exist along with a doll resembling Napolaen. The second note by the mannequin speaks of the spirits growing angrier with him and his decision to return all of the relics besides the plush. The note next to the doll talks about how the spirits continue to haunt Btuch. If the player hugs the doll, the lights will lose power again, and the player will receive the "HUG" badge. A gunshot can then be heard, and as the lights switch on, Napolaen can be seen dead on the floor while the atmosphere turns red and the walls of the basement close in. Once the walls get close to the corpse, the lights will turn off and on again, with the basement returning to normal with the exception of the corpse and a new note. The player shall also be holding the doll. The final note reads how despite returning everything to the spirits, they lied about peace and unfortunately possess him. Napolaen can be interacted with by "paying respects", which is paying five Robux. This will just place flowers around his corpse. This appears to be all the known content within "BASEMENT".
Relationship[]
Napolaen[]
Btuch and Napolaen are recognized as best friends and roommates who attempt to survive the spirits known as the, "Night Marchers", together. Outside of this, hardly anything has been discovered pertaining to a conclusion or origination of their relationship. What is known is that Btuch and Napolaen both came from the "MUTAGENSIS" experiments, so perhaps they met there and left together.[10]
Theories[]
- Btuch survived the "Night Marchers" and now simply traverses other games throughout Roblox.
- There has been no death depicted or hinted at for Butch, despite there being a very clear death for Napolaen in "BASEMENT". Additionally, Butch was never clearly responsible for the stolen artifacts, unlike Napolaen. Due to this, perhaps he wasn't bothered by the spirits once they had killed Napolaen.
- Especially as of 2024, Butch has been seen in various different Roblox games according to their badges, therefore meaning he is still active.
- Perhaps Napolaen's termination signified death, and since Butch has not been terminated from the platform, he is still alive.
Trivia[]
- Btuch created a group named after himself on July 15th, 2020, although, it does not appear to have the purpose of the myth. Furthermore, they are a part of two more groups that are irrelevant to the myth, one named "Stationary Pig" and the other, "Iconic Modelling !".
- The main threat to Btuch and Napolaen, the "Night Marchers", is an actual Hawaiian legend. Similar to their depiction in game, they are believed to be warrior from an ancient tribe that roams Hawaii at night.[11]
- Surprisingly, the more recognized myth following projects don't seem to follow Btuch out of their 8.5k+ followers, besides NotableMyths. Although, there are many much smaller and defunct projects that follow Btuch such as FollowAllMyths, MythsForStal, and LandonsMythList.
- Among the many Roblox badges Btuch has, they have a handful from myth games. They have multiple from D3tectiveBailey's game, "vestigial library", and a visitation badge to jhettoaoaoao's museum, "Myths Of ROBLOX". Additionally, they've obtained all four badges in "The Rose Cottage".
